The gap between wanting to do a home renovation and actually having the skills to do it can be pretty big. Thanks to the videos on Bob Vila's Web site, that gap is getting smaller. While you might not own a miter saw, a table saw, a shingle thief, and a power tacker, this video will still help you to see that replacing a casement window (that's a crank window) is a lot simpler than it looks. The narration is clear, each step is detailed, and the carpenter in the video makes it look easy. Sometimes just seeing a project step-by-step makes it look do-able. The video does double duty as a how-to video on replacing shingled siding. The narrator's voice is oddly soothing - I'm not saying this video is boring (it's not - it's very interesting), but you could listen to the audio if you need a little help sleeping on a cross-country flight.
