Small Bedroom Ideas
Make your personal space cozy, functional and a reflection of who you are.

A small bedroom can be a truly cozy and warm space to make one’s own. The key, however, is a good organizational plan as well as a strong design plan. I’ve never believed that the goal of decorating a small space is to simply make it look larger. Of course, a cramped room is no fun, but neither is a cavernous space.
Here is a list of small bedroom ideas for different age groups that might trigger your creativity:
Babies
Babies don’t need a lot of space to make them happy. A beautiful crib and a changing table, a bureau, a rocker and shelving for books and toys is all they require. Small bedroom ideas for babies include incorporating a beautiful mural with a vista of a wide-open field filled with fairies or a rendering of your local ballpark to entice a growing imagination and open up the space considerably.
Children & Teens
Theme rooms are very common among children and teens, and a small bedroom offers a great canvas for creating a theme room. Likewise, both kids and teens usually prefer small spaces because they provide a sense of security (important to children) and privacy (important to teens). I’ve never been a fan of the standard Disney princess or Bob the Builder-type theme rooms. They are too easy and too much about product merchandising. But how about creating a perfect tiny jewel box of a princess room that features a bed decked out in silky drapes and sequined pillows? As a matter of fact, this space could easily transition to a glam rock-star themed room for an older girl. Add a vanity table that doubles as a computer desk and you’re on the road to a small space fit for a big star. Let your small bedroom ideas go mod and sleek with trim furniture that brings to mind a sophisticated man, or woman, about town.
Young Adults
With the economy still a little dicey, there are many young, post-college adults who are moving back into their parents’ homes in order to save money. However, the last thing they want is to move back into their childhood room feeling like they are moving backward in life. Create a tiny studio apartment or hip boutique hotel space with a sleek platform bed that doubles as a sofa, add in a cocktail table and a side chair for hanging out or having friends over. Include a trendy bar cart for glassware, snacks or a one-cup coffee maker and they may never leave! A great closet storage system will provide space for clothing and other storage needs.
Grownups & Empty Nesters
Small homes are looking more and more attractive these days, as are small city apartments for active empty nesters. A bedroom, at its most basic, needs only a bed, a couple of side tables and storage for clothing. Most sleep experts agree that the bedroom should be for sleeping only and that other activities such as watching television and paying bills only serve to distract from the sleep process. A beautiful adult space can be yours in a tiny room by keeping it simple. And by simple, I don’t mean plain. Whether your style is over-the-top Rococo or simple-as-can-be Shaker, you can make your space yours even in a tiny room. Start with the perfect bed and a great organizational plan for storage of clothing, and you’re well on your way to creating the perfect, cozy nest for you and your significant other.
Great small bedroom ideas abound. Just keep in mind that you need to be organized, you need to take care of your specific needs, and don’t think too small! Small bedrooms need big ideas to really shine!
