House Tour: Colonial Remodel
Colonial Renovation House Tour
This colonial style house, once condemned, has been completely remodeled. David Hyatt, of Greenfield Center, NY put a lot of time and hard work into every part of this lovely home. Other than keeping the original wood floor in the living room, he has put new floors in every other room. There are four bedrooms upstairs, all the common rooms are downstairs. The kitchen is my favorite. The first floor is uniquely designed with a fireplace in the kitchen and several Marilyn Monroe photographs. When AJ Zwijacz moved in she brought her own personal touch, including the strength and beauty of elephant images and sculptures. They are still working on building a home bar and adding a medieval theme to the decor. Start your tour of this unique rural renovated house:
Colonial Remodel Exterior
The front view of the colonial style, north facing, completely remodeled home. The cement walkway was just put in this summer.
East Side of Remodeled Colonial
This is east side of the house showing the kitchen window, the kid's bedroom upstairs, and the original chimney which they have cleaned two times a year. Notice the elephant flower pot by the well. Even the well is remodeled; originally it had brick around it.
East Side Yard of Renovated Colonial
The east side yard. What could be better than a homemade swing for two under an apple tree? The little one-room building used to be screened in and now has a cement patio and place for relaxation and cooking on the grill.
Master Bedroom of Renovated Colonial
The master bedroom. The Elephant is featured again as the totem animal. Notice the elephants holding up the decorative drape behind the bed. The furniture and bedding are relatively new and were bought at Bare Bones. There's even a spot in the corner for the dog's bed too.
Teen Bedroom in Renovated Colonial
The teenager's bedroom with a hand painted nick name on the wall and favorite animal. She's got concert ticket stubs up, a place for her computer, and a very good sound system for music and movies.
Living Room of Renovated Colonial
The living room facing west. The room behind the standing fan is where the home bar will go. Next to that is a room filled with fish tanks. A Marilyn Monroe photograph collection is featured here in the living room. Some of AJ's elephants are also on display. During the day AJ works at a veterinary office and wishes to take a leave of absence to volunteer at an elephant sanctuary.
Dining Room of Renovated Colonial
Golden tones make for a happy dining room. There's even a place for Hampton the dog to join the family for a formal meal. The kitchen is through the hallway and the living room is off to the right.
Dining Room Second View
The dining room with a view into the living room. Notice the different kinds of floors. All the framed artwork, other than the Marilyn images, is made by one of David's daughters who is starting her first year at Pratt.
Kitchen of Renovated Colonial
Across from the stove and cabinets we have the original, 217 year old fireplace here. The dog cookies are kept next to the people cookie jar. The framed artwork next to the table was made by AJ's grandmother. It's stitched art of apples and blossoms. The windows are original. The tongue and groove floating floor was just put in. When AJ makes an apple pie, she puts it next to the fireplace to stay warm.
New Cabinets in Renovated Colonial
Where AJ loves to make big home made meals. Everything here is remodeled by David.
